Medicare generally covers 80% of the cost (after yearly deductible) for durable medical equipment when it is sold by a participating supplier such as Anchor Drugs Pharmacy. Medicare-covered durable medical equipment includes blood glucose monitors, nebulizers, canes, crutches, walkers, braces, wheelchairs, scooters, osteogenesis stimulators, commode chairs, infusion pumps, home oxygen equipment and supplies, hospital beds, ostomy supplies, and more.

When choosing durable medical equipment, you may opt to buy or rent the equipment depending on your insurance coverage. Anchor Drugs Pharmacy can let you know which items need to be rented under Medicare, and which can be bought. Generally speaking Medicare requires most durable medical equipment to be rented, with the exception of inexpensive or custom items.

Anyone can buy durable medical equipment, but check your insurance policy first to see if it covers the equipment you need. If you have Medicare Part B under the Original Medicare Plan, you are eligible for medically necessary durable medical equipment for use in your home. If you are a patient in a skilled nursing facility, the facility will be responsible for obtaining the equipment.
